Bailout + Gifts

I received my bailout today, from my dad and my brother. It looks like I don’t have to cook lunch until I graduate especially now that my tax refund form IRS is around the corner as well. I also received a new Norelco shaver that my brother bought a couple of months ago. (one of the many advantages of living with a brother who’s got the dough :) )

Something is seriously wrong this quarter. I am way ahead in all my readings, homeworks and projects and it feels very weird. Of course, this is just week 2 and a little premature to be claiming things like these, but…

Windows 7

I’ve been running the beta version of Windows 7 for the past couple of days and I am really happy with the way the new UI modifications look. For one, you will no longer have a cluttered taskbar and the UI looks and feels much snappier than any earlier version of windows.

The install was easy and I basically had my existing Vista installation upgraded to 7. The beta is currently under a 30 day trial-period and I’m already looking for ways to get a serial number and retain this beta install until the final release early next year. An added bonus was that, the upgrade did not break any of my existing programs and I have had no compatibility issues, except for Google Chrome which refuses to work!

I wish I had a touchscreen monitor to experience the touch features but I am happy so far. It’s really awesome and I think you should definitely check it out. Follow the download link here -

Edit : I like the new UAC settings as well…much less annoying!

Bailout

I recently read an article where some city newspapers were planning to ask for a bailout by the government. I am thinking that I should apply for a government bailout as well. I am a poor college senior and my Mint summary should convince anyone that I am almost bankrupt for all practical purposes.

value

Maybe, I should start spending the cash that I have stashed under my mattress. Hmm..

Back to the grind

I spent the last 2 days in a ski resort in Pennsylvania and I finally went down a black diamond and survived. The east coast slopes aren’t the hardest I’ve seen but the artificial snow here make the slopes much harder to navigate.

Tomorrow, I head back to Seattle and back to school. This winter quarter will probably be one of the hardest quarters I have taken at te UW, with respect to the amount of work I would have to do every week.

I am not looking forward to this quarter :(

Happy New Year

2008 has been a roller-coaster. ‘Nuff said.

My brother summarized the year much better than I can ever do, and I was with him for through most of the events, so mine’s not very different from his.

Things I look forward to, in 2009 -

* Graduate in June

* Cross-country road trip

* Trip to India (explore the north for once)

* Start work at MSFT in September

* Skiing at Whistler

* …

(will be updated as I think for more things to do)

Oh yea, Happy Birthday Appa. You are lucky that the whole world celebrates your birthday :) We miss you.
