Motorcycles – to ABS or not?

I would like to dedicate this post to the importance of having an ABS system in your bike/motorcycle/whatever you call it. I ride a 2009 Suzuki SV650S that I bought, almost 9 months ago. Sadly, the only regret that I have now is not buying a bike with an ABS system. A wise man (my instructor) once said that ABS system would be standard on all new bikes in a couple of years. I didn’t pay too much attention to what he said and neither did he ‘recommend’ that we buy bikes with an ABS system.

I remember being on the line about getting it and a hundred forums later, I convinced myself that it wasn’t worth the extra $800 and that I could do away without it. But, living in one of the wettest cities in the world (Seattle) and probably the city with the most unpredictable drivers, I certainly wish I had an ABS system. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t dropped my bike yet and I still drive pretty safe, but when the road is wet 9 out of 12 months of the year and as long as there are teen girls on cell phones driving on the road, ABS will save your life!

Trust me, get the ABS and live happily ever after. Kthxbye.

My precious

sv650

My spanking new Suzuki SV650SF. I rode on the freeway (@70mph) today at 1230AM in the rain and with heavy winds. Probably the most hardcore riding I’ve ever done in those conditions. Really stable :)

Me vs. Rental car (pt. II)

Tomorrow, my brother and I leave Seattle nice and early for a road trip to San Francisco. I rented out a car and this time around, made sure that I didn’t end up with the HHR again. I got a nice looking Ford Escape and I really like it so far. The car (or SUV rather) handles really well for it’s size and feels great to drive around. Maybe I am a little biased now that I drive a huge SUV but I almost ran a red light today because I thought I could :) (with great big SUVs, come great ego).

Ford Escape

If everything goes well, we should should reach San Francisco sometime tomorrow night, get done with our Schengen visa interviews (for Spain) Friday morning and start driving back late Friday. We are planning to camp out for a couple of days in northern California and Oregon area on the way back and taking our supplies with us. That reminds me that my brother got a new road bike for himself (which we are taking on the trip as well)

I will be back in Seatown on Sunday. Adios.
