Facebook

The new facebook is officially out and you don’t have an option to go back to the old layout….

… Unless you are using a browser that isn’t supported yet, in which case, you still have the old layout. The good news for those who don’t want change just yet is IE8 beta 2 is one of those browsers. So go on, happy stalking :)

The browser war

The past week has seen a couple of new browsers in the market, namely IE8 beta 2 and Google Chrome. And I must say that the winner. by far. is IE8. Now I’m not just saying this because I worked at Microsoft this summer. I’m saying this because Chrome, in my opinion, is a pre-alpha or alpha release at best. Sure, all the Google websites load up in a fly and the javascript engine is awesome but this crap isn’t supposed to be in the market just yet. It can scroll pages down but not up, has issues with doing simple functions on Facebook and other sites,  and starts keeping the cpu busy for reasons beyond my cognition. (Maybe it’s analyzing your cache to convert it to Google Cash).

Now, Internet Explorer on the other hand has definitely been a step forward in the right direction. In fact, I’ve moved from using Firefox exclusively to 50-50 share among the 2 now. The built in search similar to Firefox is good, doesn’t break any existing sites, has a compat mode, safe-browsing mode, an addon site, and a host ofother features and the usability going for it. Go ahead, try it out. I bet you would be pleasantly surprised.

A note to Google – I’m sure the browser is going to in beta forever, just like GMail and other services, but that isn’t an excuse to roll out a POS browser and expect people to forgive you. If you break it, you fix it. Here’s a funny take on the Chrome being touted as the new Web-OS and Windows-killer.
